Long weekend

First, the number i posted before is not exactly correct. The correct # for my cell is
011-353-85-746-1526

Also, the address that some people know, which is my host counselor is not the best address to send anything (if you choose to send me something....!) The reason for this is that she lives a ways out of the city and it isn't really easy for me to get out where she is, which is by the coast) Therefore, if you haven't already sent anything, dont send it to her. I am moving into my new apartment this evening, and I will post that address tomorrow, when i know it. That way it will come straight to me.
This weekend has been insane. I have been surrounded by hundreds of Irish Rotarians. They have all been some of the nicest people i have seriously ever met. Every night that have taken me out to a flashy restaurant and treated me so nice, which has been a real treat. I will post some pictures of some of the events soon. I might try that a little later (i'm about to take a nap) But, i've been around them so much that i am actually starting to think with an Irish accent, which is both amusing and somewhat annoying. Anyways, I have so many interesting observations that I have been making over the weekend, but I will write again late since I coulnd't write yesterday. Enjoy the sunshine for me!

what a day

So, i have finally found an apartment!!!! It is a wonderful and cute place right in the middle of the city. I can't wait till I can upload pictures. I dont move in till sunday, and after that i wont have internet for maybe a week or longer, so that will be no fun. Anyways, another cool thing that happened to me today was that i got to meet the President of Ireland. SHE (Mary McAleese) spoke out the Rotary District Conference that started today. Afterwords, I got to shake her hand (very firm grip) and tell her where i am was from and whatnot. I just thought that was really neat. She kinda resembles Maggie T (josh) so that was neat too. Well the conference is interesting because there are a few hundred Rotarians for all over Ireland who have gathered in Dublin. Tomorrow the scholars are making a presentation about what we think the future of rotary should be. That will be fun, except for i have to be there really early in the morning. Tonight we had a huge Rotary Ball which was loads of fun. A lot of the women wore sequened dressed and the men irish kilts. We had champage before our 5 course meal and a string quartet played. There are 8 scholars and we all sat together. Everyone is just so nice, scholars and rotarian alike. I need to try and get some sleep tonight. Now that i have an apartment, I am definitly more relaxed.

Connected to the world

I tried to type this post last night, but for some reason my computer wouldn't let me publish it. So, i'm going to try again. What I wanted to say then was that I am now connected to the world after the purchase of a cell phone yesterday. If anyone want to shell out the money to call me, or if you have an extra calling card lying around that you never use then give me a shout at...
01-353-085-746-1526
But, if you, like myself, do not have one lying around, then go to www.skype.com
Download the program and get either a computer microphone or a headset with a mic on it (i think they have some for sale on the websit) and we can talk for free. My user name is Irishhoney. E-mail jordan if you have any questions because he successfully set it up on his computer. Basically with this program you can talk for free from computer to computer. I will have mine set up in a week or so. Hopefully the apartment I am looking at today will be the one! Tonight starts the weekend long Rotary District Conference here in Dublin. Hundreds of Rotarians are gathering tonight at some hotel and we are having a Guiness and chanpagne reception. Tomorrow night is a huge ball, and saturday is a caberet. I will definitly let you know how this goes, because it is going to be interesting.

Much better day

So, today started out much like the past 3. I woke up late because my alarm doesn't work (I dont know why I thought that would change). I checked me e-mail and my daft account, and there were no knew places to live. So, as I waited for the hot water heater to start working so i could take a shower, and I checked daft one more time. Luckily someone had posted a place in the city centre one minute earlier. So i called her one minute later, and I finally have a good potential place to live. I dont go and see it until tomorrow night, but I am really excited about it. Anyways, i made spaghetti for david and mirriam tonight, and it wasn't bad. We then went into the city centre and met up with Sara D. and her friend Tom to see Pride and Prejudice. Love that story! Anways, hopefully I will have good news on an apartment tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed.

Female seeking single room

Ok, well I couldn't sleep at all last night. I guess i'm not over the jet lag after all. I went to bed at 6am and got up a few hours later to see if anyone had e-mailed me about places to live. They hadn't, so i got back up at 2. I spend all day calling and e-mailing potential apartments. Finally, i got an e-mail saying that 2 girls were showing their apartment at like 7. So, i got on a bus and went to Ranelagh, which is like a suberb outside of the city. I actually found the place and met them, but it wasn't really what i was looking for. Not very clean and just didn't feel right. So, i made my way back and got some take-away chinese food. (not take-out here) I called a few more people tonight only to hear that they had already renter their places. THis not working out like i'd hoped. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Oh, i saw a pony trotting down the street today with two boys behind it on a chariot. Not something you see everyday.

Day 1

I have to preface this by saying that I walked a total of 9 miles today. Needless to say, my legs are killing me. I believe I will be taking the bus tomorrow. Anyways, I made a lot of interesting observations today. The reason for all the walking was that david, miriam (the married couple i am staying with) and I walked into the city centre today from their house in a cute little suberb called Crumlin. One thing i noticed on the long walk was that the movie rental stores have tanning beds inside. What a novel idea. I was also told that residents of this city have to pay for their trash, yet not for recycling. So you pay by the weight of the trash and how often you put it out. So, people have a real incentive to recycle. Would that ever work in the states? I doubt it. Well, we walked all over the centre today and I got to finally see Trinity. Wow, it is a breathtaking campus. I only wish they had graduate housing there. Finding me an apartment was part of the reason for the long trip. I put a note on the graduate housing add wall, so maybe someone will e-mail me from seeing that. I even bought a 2 Euro sunday paper to look for lettings, but there were none. I've got to find a place soon! Hopefully tomorrow will be easier, yet it is suppose to rain tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes!

I'm here!

Well, after a very long day I am here in Dublin (really a suberb called Crumlin). THere was this 2 year old girl on the plane that screamed every 20 minutes for the entire 6 hours. So needless to day i didn't sleep on the plane. It is pretty nippy here. It was around 45 when i got off the plane. I had on a t-shirt. I hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully i will have an apartment soon and can have my own space. I am staying with a couple, one of which is also a scholar. Ok i g/g

Bye Bye

Well, i'm about to head off to the airport. The day has not been uneventfull. My parents are at Wal-mart right now getting another suitcase because my dad just broke my enourmous duffle bag. My flight leaves in 2 1/2 hours. I am just hoping I make my flight at this point. Let's hope that is all that goes wrong today. I will try and update when i get there, if i can keep my eyes open!

what a weekend

I had an absolutely fabulous time hanging out with everyone this weekend! It was so good to see all my friends before I head off. Saturday night at the yellow rose was, like always, a time to remember. I'm going to miss that place and I never really thought I would say that! Thanks for hanging out you guys, I can't wait to see everyone again in December!

The Yellow Rose

Thanks to Olivia, I am able to show the picture I was talking about. As you can see, we were definitly having a great time. This saturday will be even more fun, so I hope everyone can make it! Wow...that shirt. Well, I also got an e-mail from my Rotary lady in Dublin today. I keep asking her about areas of the city that are safe to live in. Apparently, all the apartments that I have found are in the wrong areas. Yet, these apartments have been all over the city centre, so I've come to realize that this whole city might not be a super safe place. I'm going to end up walking like 40 minutes to school b/c my flat will be so far away from everything. That better not happen. We'll see, in 2 weeks from now I will be searching that city for what I hope to be normal people to live with in an affordable yet safe part of the city. That combination seems almost impossible. For now, all I want to think about it drinking $5 pitchers at the YR in my new boots!

Friday & Saturday Night

So, I hope that everyone can come out to school on Friday night. I really want to see everyone before I leave (In less than 2 weeks!!ahhh!) Also, if you can't come friday, or if you just want a double night of fun, the come to the Yellow Rose in Trussville on Sat night. Deputy Five is playing, and they are always fun. I guess I will be updating this more often just to that I can get into the habbit. I had a picture to share with you from the last time we went to the Yellow Rose, but my shirt is not exactly appropriate, and I couldn't get it to paste on this thing. My Dell computer is acting up right now, and I am only hoping that the Geek Squad at Best Buy can fix it before I leave. I will be naked without my computer, that's why I dont go camping.
